A full time teacher is expected to teach in average 20 lessons per week. 
At UWC Maastricht every teacher is considered to be part of the pastoral care structure; therefor subject teachers support students not only in their academic learning but also in their development as a person.
Part of the UWC model of education is that all teachers are also expected to lead a service and a creative or physical activity.
The new colleague will participate fully as a team member in an academic department and within the whole school.

Education degree
  • Completed Bachelor education (MYP) or Masters (DP) in the requested subject.
  • (international) Teaching Qualification / Certificate that qualifies for accreditation according to the Dutch educational system.
Professional competencies
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following competencies on a professional proficiency level:
  • Subject knowledge and methodological competence: Demonstrating the necessary subject knowledge and methodological strategies to effectively educate students. Helping students to make themselves familiar with the cultural and professional baggage that is necessary for them to fully function in society. Providing students with structure and support in a safe learning environment to enable them to develop socially, emotionally and morally.
  • Organizational: Creating a well-organized, orderly and task-oriented learning environment.
  • Collaboration with colleagues: Making a professional contribution to a good pedagogic and didactic climate, to effective mutual collaboration and good school organization.
  • Interpersonal: Creating an atmosphere of trust by dealing with students in a positive and open way.
  • Interaction with the environment: Ensuring good communication and coordination with parents and others involved in the education and development of the students.
  • Reflection and development: Reflecting regularly on the development of personal and professional capabilities.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Fluent English Level: reading, writing, speaking; a professional command of the English language, minimum CEFR level B2.
Professional experience
Successful experience of teaching in the IB-DP and IB-MYP will be preferred.

Remuneration / Terms of Employment
  • Contract-of-Employment under Dutch law: the initial contract is for Academic years 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 with the intention of renewal.
  • The package will be commensurate with the responsibilities of the position, according to the Dutch CLA for Secondary Education (‘CAO VO’).
  • School pension plan via the ABP Retirement/Pension scheme.
  • Location: UWC Maastricht, the Netherlands.
  • School Closure Holidays.
  • To be able to work in Education in the Netherlands, a (‘foreign’) staff member must be able  to successfully apply for
    • a residence/work permit in the Netherlands.
    • the Dutch-VOG (certificate of good conduct).
    • the Dutch recognition of your foreign training / teacher qualification.
UWCM will assist in processing the application for a residency/work permit and VOG.

UWC Maastricht
UWCM was born in December 2009 as the 12th member in the United World College family.

UWCM is a completely integrated, multicultural school for students of different educational and socio-economic backgrounds aged 3-18 which operates within the Dutch public educational system and is subsidized by the Dutch government.  The integrated school was formed to serve both the needs of the international community of Maastricht, and to provide an education for those students chosen through the UWC national committee system from throughout the world to study and live as residential students at UWCM.

UWCM delivers a challenging and transformational educational experience to a diverse cross section of students, inspiring them to create a more peaceful and sustainable future.

Today the UWCM serves over 850 students from more than 100 countries, 180 of whom are residential and live on campus.

UWC History and mission
The first UWC, the United World College of the Atlantic (UWC AC), was the brainchild of a group of idealists - the German educationalist Kurt Hahn and a number of veterans of the Second World War – in response to the misery and carnage they had witnessed and the rising tensions of the Cold War and the nuclear arms race. 

They committed to waging a war for Peace by bringing together young people at a formative period in their lives from different nations, races, cultures, religions, political systems and social classes and to educate them in an environment of mutual understanding and mutual respect.

A central aspect of this approach was and is to open people’s eyes to the power of community and selfless service to others.
As the years have passed, others around the world - attracted to this simple yet powerful idea that education can be a force for peace and a sustainable future – have lent their support to allow for expansion and growth.
